The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on August 25, 2026, issued the Reserve Bank of India (Regional Rural Banks – Cash Reserve Ratio and Statutory Liquidity Ratio) Fourth Amendment Directions, 2026, further to amend the Reserve Bank of India (Regional Rural Banks – Cash Reserve Ratio and Statutory Liquidity Ratio) Directions, 2025.
The amendment aims to shorten the period of exemption from CRR and SLR maintenance for specified fresh deposits. The exemption for fresh FCNR(B) deposits of 3–5 years’ tenor mobilised between June 8, 2026 and September 30, 2026, and for fresh NRE term deposits of 3 years or more mobilised between June 19, 2026 and September 30, 2026, has been revised by replacing the end date September 30, 2026 with August 31, 2026. Accordingly, Paragraphs 20(5) and 20(6) of the Directions have been amended. The Fourth Amendment Directions, 2026 come into force with immediate effect.
